The speaker, Ms. Theresa P. Aspiras, Phoenix Publishing House Senior Manager for Human Resources, disseminated the necessary points and information that are much needed by us.
She highlighted that our personality is how we present ourselves to the world as to future employees. With this point, she stated the 3 V's to Building your Personal Brand: Visual, Verb, and Voyage.
Visual corresponds to what the recruiters see. Ms. Theresa reiterated that we must dress to impress, which means we must present ourselves how the employer expects us to. One of her tips is wearing neutral colors since opting for a minimalist look is the best way to go. Ms. Theresa also noted that dressing properly is not the only point of having the Visual, but your Resumé should also come along presentable with you.
Verb, as Ms. Theresa explained, is all about our communicative aspects. Our words should always show courtesy and respect, deliberately representing us to the employer. On the other hand, our body language is something we should also be minded of; often, foul body language ruins an opportunity. Unnecessary movements like fidgeting, biting your nails, and scratching your head should also be avoided as these may make you look weird and may turn off the interviewer. Matching your voice and facial expression is also expressed by Ms. Theresa as one of the most necessary actions during the interview; the interviewer must feel your sincerity and respect even when you are just asked simple questions like your full name.
Lastly, Voyage is about how long you will go. Ms. Theresa highlighted the skills one must have to increase their voyage. She explained that there are two (2) types of skills, which is hard and soft. Hard skills are those related to your job, and soft skills are considered power skills, all about your work attitude. As an employer, Ms. Theresa prefers an employee candidate with more vital soft skills than a very great skillset on technicality as she believes that soft skills are one's power skills.
Additionally, Ms. Theresa also presented the 5 E's that will help one boost their career. First is to be early; being early just showcases one's self-discipline and commitment which should not only be observed during the interview day. Being early on regular days as an employee will make your employer see your dedication. Enthusiasm is an infectious character, and as an employee, being enthusiastic will help you and your co-workers as you motivate them. Efficiency is one value that highlights intelligent laziness, which will unquestionably make your work and life easier. Excellence is one characteristic that should not only be observed during competitive situations. Being excellent also means that you are on a continuous cycle of learning and being open to the possibility of change as an individual. Being easy shows your interpersonal relation skills as you are easy to work with.
Overall, the seminar was one of the most rigorous and sophisticated seminars I have attended during this course. The speaker, Ms. Theresa, is not only knowledgeable academically about the topic but is also sensible as she utilized specific platforms like menti.com to alleviate our energy. Ms. Theresa also practically engaged herself (being an HR personnel) to apply the points she had discussed by conducting a formal interview with a few of my batchmates. From the practical interview, we have learned and grasped the conscious situation we will be engaging ourselves with in the future. The seminar ultimately gave me more information and knowledge, especially on a micro-view of how recruitment and application processes are done.
